Apparently, this is how you write a book 😂 (writing as a busy mom and other things)

very authorly behavior

“Oh my gosh, how do you write? How do you find the time?” my friend asked me.

I just kinda stared at them because, yeah, how am I doing that?

I think the authorly thing to say would be that I wait for quiet, calm, peaceful moments to break open that creative bag and dive in with the precision of a surgeon slicing through tissue. That’s what I do.

That’s 100% it.

Not that I would ever stir the spaghetti with one hand while typing with the other. That wouldn’t be very authorly.

Other things I would never do:

  • Write while I am supposed to be listening to my husband. That would be a huge no-no. Very disrespectful.

  • Cry about characters that I have complete control over. That would be delusional.

  • Write while letting my kids completely destroy my whole house. That’s just bad parenting.

  • Stay up wayyyyy too late typing away until my husband leans over and tells me to get a grip. I’m a responsible beeeeee. I would never do that.

  • Spend every road trip dreaming about fictional characters and making my husband listen to my obsession with fictional people. That would be grounds for couple’s therapy.

  • Sit around a campfire editing my book. That would just be antisocial. Don't pay attention to the evidence above. That picture is all lies.

Nope.

It’s just quiet and still for this mom of three, spending the majority of her day homeschooling, hiking, cooking, dreaming, clicking away on my MacBook, and not cleaning.

Never cleaning.

What’s your version of stirring spaghetti with one hand and doing the thing you love with the other? Hit reply and tell me. I need to know I’m not alone. 😂

Love you, swoony friends, Katie
